In 2011, the California DOJ created an eCrime Unit that: (1) trains police and prosecutors in light of new technologies; and (2) prosecutes criminal online invasions of privacy, among other crimes. Understand how the information you’re giving away could be used. Become more aware of how your personal information, once shared online, is no longer in your control. Read an organization’s privacy policy before signing up for an app or service. Remember, it’s not necessarily a case of privacy vs. security.
